Brihat Jataka
बृहज्जातक
A 6th-century foundational text of natal astrology by Varahamihira, one of the standard early authorities on horoscopy.
Brihat Jataka is a foundational classical text of natal astrology (jataka), composed by Varahamihira and generally dated to the 6th century CE. In 28 chapters it sets out the core principles of horoscopy — the signs and planets, the houses, yogas, and the assessment of a nativity — in a compact, highly influential form that shaped much of the later tradition.
Varahamihira was among the most important astronomers and astrologers of classical India. Brihat Jataka is his principal work on natal astrology and is widely regarded as one of the standard early authorities on the subject.
