Chandraचन्द्र

Moon

The Moon in Vedic astrology — the karaka of mind, emotions, and nourishment; ruler of Karka (Cancer).

Chandra is the Sanskrit name for the Moon. Also called Soma, Indu, and Shashi.

Karaka (significator) of: the mind and emotional nature, mother, home and domestic life, nourishment and care, public life and popularity, liquids and water, memory, and fluctuating circumstances.

Rules one lagna: Karka (Cancer) — the Moon's own sign, associated with emotional sensitivity, nurturing instincts, and deep attachment to home and family.

Exalted in Vrishabha (Taurus) at 3°. Debilitated in Vrischika (Scorpio) at 3°.

The Moon is the fastest-moving body in a Vedic chart, transiting one sign roughly every two and a half days. Its nakshatra at birth anchors the Vimshottari dasha sequence — the timeline of planetary periods that underlies most classical timing analysis. The Moon's sign, house, and relationship with the lagna lord together form the emotional and relational core of a chart.

Used on SahiKundli for: Moon's placement in houses and signs, ruling planet for Karka lagna, nakshatra-based dasha calculation, and as a key indicator in relationship and emotional pattern readings.
