Guruगुरु
Jupiter
Jupiter in Vedic astrology — the karaka of wisdom, expansion, and ethical principle; ruler of Dhanu (Sagittarius) and Meena (Pisces).
Guru is the Sanskrit name for Jupiter. Also called Brihaspati and Devaguru.
Karaka (significator) of: wisdom and learning, teachers and mentors, dharma and ethics, children, wealth through righteous means, faith and philosophy, the liver, and expansion in general.
Rules two lagnas: Dhanu (Sagittarius) — Jupiter's mooltrikona, the more outward, philosophical, and idealistic expression; and Meena (Pisces) — the more inward, compassionate, and spiritual expression.
Exalted in Karka (Cancer) at 5°. Debilitated in Makara (Capricorn) at 5°.
Jupiter is the primary natural benefic in classical Vedic astrology. Its aspect on a house or planet is generally considered protective and expanding. A Jupiter-ruled lagna (Dhanu or Meena) tends toward a chart oriented around principles, learning, and the search for meaning. Jupiter's functional role varies by lagna — for some lagnas it becomes a Kendradhipati and loses some of its natural beneficence; see the Laghu Parashari tables for each lagna's specific functional status.
Used on SahiKundli for: Jupiter's placement in houses and signs, ruling planet for Dhanu and Meena lagnas, Gajakesari yoga analysis, and as a key indicator in dharma and wealth readings.
