Pushya spans 3°20' to 16°40' Cancer and is ruled by Saturn — an unexpected lord for the most benevolent of nakshatras. The presiding deity is Brihaspati, the preceptor of the gods and the embodiment of divine wisdom. Classical texts, including BPHS, describe Pushya as among the most auspicious of all 27 nakshatras — a reputation grounded in the combination of Saturn's patience and discipline with Brihaspati's expansive wisdom and nourishing care.

Deva in nature and symbolised by a lotus or flower opening toward the light, Pushya operates at the highest register of the human-divine interface. Significations include spiritual practice, the capacity to nourish others, abundance, purification, and learning from those who know more. Its Cancer location emphasises the nurturing dimension: this is wisdom expressed as care, discipline expressed as sustained spiritual attention.

The body areas are the chest and lungs — the seat of the breath and the organ of nourishment. Saturn's nineteen-year Mahadasha begins when the Moon is in Pushya. This is notable because Pushya's auspiciousness is partly Saturnian: the nourishment it offers comes through sustained effort, not effortless grace. SahiKundli treats Saturn Mahadasha for Pushya Moons with this context — long, structured, and ultimately fruitful.
