Methodology
SahiMeter
Every SahiKundli reading opens with a period score — a single number from 1 to 10 for the area of life your reading covers. Here is exactly how it is computed.
SahiMeter is not a summary of the report. It is a constraint on it. The score is computed algorithmically from your birth chart before any text is generated — which means every section of the report must be consistent with the verdict the meter shows. If the score is Challenging, the reading cannot pivot to false optimism. If it is Favorable, it cannot introduce friction the chart does not support.
The score is domain-specific. A career score and a relationship score drawn from the same birth chart will often read very differently, because different planets govern different areas of life. SahiMeter computes each domain independently.
Four inputs
1. Running dasha lords
The Mahadasha and Antardasha lords active at your date of reading, derived from Vimshottari Dasha using your Moon’s nakshatra at birth. These carry the most weight in the score. The Mahadasha lord sets the primary character of the period; the Antardasha lord modifies it at half weight.
2. Natal dignity of the dasha lords
The strength of each dasha lord in your birth chart: exalted, own sign, neutral, or debilitated. An exalted Mahadasha lord produces a higher base score; a debilitated one produces a lower base. Two modifiers are also applied: combustion weakens the planet’s ability to deliver results, and debilitation combined with retrograde motion partially cancels the debilitation — a classical principle known as neecha bhanga.
3. Domain karaka relevance
Each domain has classical planetary governors. For career: Saturn, Sun, Mercury. For money: Jupiter, Venus. For relationship: Venus, Jupiter. For health: Sun, Moon. If the running Mahadasha lord is a primary karaka for the domain being scored, the score increases by one point. If the lord is a classical antagonist for that domain — for example, Mars as Mahadasha lord for a relationship reading — it decreases by one.
4. Antardasha lord dignity
The Antardasha lord’s natal dignity applies at half the weight of the Mahadasha lord. An exalted Antardasha lord adds a point; a debilitated one subtracts one. This reflects the classical understanding that the Antardasha modifies but does not override the Mahadasha.
Score labels
What the score does not claim
SahiMeter characterises the quality of a planetary period for a specific area of life. It does not predict events, assign blame, or suggest that a difficult period cannot be navigated well.
A 3 out of 10 Challenging period is something to understand and work with. The classical supports the reading recommends — mantras, fasting days, behavioral direction — exist in the tradition precisely because the tradition holds that outcomes can be influenced by conscious action. The score describes the terrain; it does not determine what you do with it.
The score is also not a life verdict. It applies to one domain, for one dasha period. The period has a start date and an end date, both shown in your reading. What follows is shown too.
